There is nothing more satisfying than creating your own homemade tomato based salsa recipe with fresh herbs to add to a picnic spread or use as a party dip for a healthy food share. If you browse the jar’s of sauces in supermarkets, you will notice most have excessive added sugars per serve.
An area of Nutrition I feel very passionate about is to encourage the community to identify hidden sugars found in everyday food products and promote a simple homemade alternative for possibly cheaper then the jar. Time to get into the kitchen with just a few simple ingredients to create a gluten free, dairy free & family friendly salsa recipe that is universal with meals.
Enjoy with chilli if you dare – I do 🙂
Homemade Salsa Recipe
1 punnet cherry tomatoes or organic canned (crushed or diced no added salt)
1 med red capsicum
3 garlic cloves
3 stalks of coriander
1/4 small purple onion
1 Tbsp vinegar of choice
1/2 tsp sea salt
Blend all ingredients until chunky. You are welcome to roast your garlic and capsicum first to add another smoky depth to the salsa recipe.
Enjoy with healthy crisps, stir through a mince combo, whip up heathy nacho’s, chicken parmigiana and many more nutritious ideas without a single sugar loaded jar salsa in sight!
